The Opportunity

A recent perception study, combined with a leadership transition, highlighted an opportunity for Linamar to improve its earnings communications.

Linda Hasenfratz, Linamar’s Executive Chair, addressed this directly as she opened the Q3 2024 earnings call:

“I’m going to start us off with some highlights and strategic updates, but you’ll notice that our slides look different tonight. We’ve spent the last six months trying to make our communications with shareholders better and more straightforward. I want to thank everyone who gave us feedback—it was really helpful. Because of your input, we’ve made our presentation shorter and more focused on the key information about our results this quarter…”

The Solution: Shorter, More Focused, and Clearer Earnings Communications

Together, the Linamar IR team and OUTKREATE dove deep into understanding the task at hand, and implemented a series of strategic improvements.

Developed the Earnings Call Structure and Roles

We rethought how the leadership team presented the earnings story and redesigned the structure of the call. The company was transitioning to a new leadership setup, with the Executive Chair, newly appointed CEO, and CFO all sharing the stage for the first time.

Using our earnings framework and insights from Linamar’s perception study, we aligned the topics, flow, and slides for each speaker. The Executive Chair opened with strategic priorities and long-term direction, the CEO focused on business performance and momentum, and the CFO covered financial results and outlook.

This alignment created a more logical and cohesive flow. It eliminated redundancy, clarified roles, and made the overall presentation sharper, smoother, and more engaging for investors.

Rebuilt the Earnings Deck

Once the structure and roles were defined, we turned to the slides themselves. The goal was to simplify the story and make every slide serve a clear purpose. Together with the Linamar IR team, we reviewed the existing deck to identify what truly needed to be said: eliminating unnecessary details, combining related content, and focusing each slide on one key takeaway. We built slides from scratch where necessary. 

The result was a cleaner, more logical flow that guided the audience through the story instead of overwhelming them with busy details. The final presentation cut the number of “money slides” from nearly 30 to about 15, each sharper, more visual, and easier to follow. The headlines told the story, and the visuals helped presenters speak with confidence and clarity.

Transformed the Visual Design for Clarity and Impact

We gave Linamar’s earnings deck a fresh, modern design that brought new life to their materials. Clean fonts, strategic use of brand colors, dynamic imagery, and advanced data visualization techniques elevated the presentation into a polished and professional tool.

By simplifying slide content, we helped presenters move away from reading off slides, empowering them to deliver compelling voiceovers instead. The enhanced presentation made complex information easier to grasp while keeping it engaging and visually appealing.

The Results: Earnings Calls That Flowed Better and Landed Stronger

Prepared remarks were reduced to 23 minutes, about 30% shorter than the average of the last three calls, thanks to a streamlined agenda and focused slide content. This concise approach made Linamar’s call and materials more engaging and effective for its audience.

To sustain this success, we provided a narrative framework and a library of slides, equipping Linamar with the tools to deliver consistently concise and impactful earnings communications moving forward.
