There’s a common misconception that IROs only take information from within the company and share it with the outside world. Adam Borgatti, SVP of IR and Corporate Development at Aecon Group, offers a different perspective. Here’s some food for thought:

I think too often, IROs feel that they’re a vehicle to convey a company strategy outward to the market, but I think everybody needs to remember that you’re uniquely in this position where you’re at the nexus of all the information coming in from the markets, you’re analyzing your competitors, etc. And so you have a lot to offer that doesn’t flow through other company areas.

And be sure that it’s known that you can provide that strategic advice to your counsel because you’re the connection between all these different sources of information. And within that ecosystem, it’s a pretty valuable role.”
